Biography

Phila Raharivelomanana obtained her PhD diploma in Molecular Chemistry at the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis (France) on 1992 and her Habilitation diploma on 1997 at the same university. She have more than 20 years of experience in phytochemical sciences research in academic aspect. Since 1993, she was faculty position at the University of French Polynesia (respectively Assistant professor on 1992, Associate professor on 1993 and Full professor on 2004) as a chemist teacher and phytochemist researcher working on tropical plants studies and especially Pacific and Polynesian plants. When she joined the UPF in 1990’s, she was one of the pioneer researchers working in phytochemistry of Polynesian plants and she focussed her interests on aromatic plants mostly on sesquiterpene containing plants. Then, she moved to plant uses investigation aiming a better understanding of ethnopharmacological regards (Pharmacopoeia and Cosmetopoeia) and an evaluation of their biological activities beyond their chemical composition assessment including studies of a wide variety of bioactive secondary metabolites (terpenes, alkaloids, polyphenols...) contents. Since 2011, she is a scientific member of national committee of French universities (CNU) in organic and inorganic chemistry in France. She is member of the Editorial advisory board of Natural Product Communications journal

Research Interest

Her research interests concern the following topics: Pacfic and Polynesian plants and their uses (Pharmacopoeia and Cosmetopoeia), Aromatic and medicinal plants, Natural product chemistry, Secondary metabolites (Terpenoids, Alkaloids, Polyphenolic compounds), Structural elucidation, Biological activity assessment (antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-ageing, odor active compounds….), Plant and Biodiversity conservation.
