Biography

Professor Xu is currently the Dean of the School of Pharmacy. In recognition of his distinguished achievements, Prof. Xu was selected in the Thousand Talents Program. Prof. Xu obtained his Ph.D degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1994 from Japan Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University. He has previously served as the Scientific Officer and R & D Manager in the Institute of Chinese Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Deputy General Manager and Senior Medical Advisor of Hutchison Whampoa (China) Ltd, the Board of Director and R & D Director at Shanghai Hutchison Pharmaceuticals. From 2001 to 2010, he served as the Deputy Director of Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine. His major social appointments include: the Vice-President of The Foundation Conference of TCM Pharmaceutical Analysis Specialty Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine, Chinese Medicine Patent Evaluation Expert of Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong, the Co-Chairman of International Conference of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine (ICMCM). He is also currently the Associate Editor of "Chinese Medicine" and the Editorial Board Member of more than 10 scientific journals. Prof. Xu has published more than 200 SCI papers, and obtained one PCT patent and six US patents

Research Interest

Prof. Xu Hongxi has completed his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1994 from Japan Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University. His current research interest is focused on drug discovery from natural resources, as well as the development of botanical dietary supplements from herbal medicines. Specifically, Prof. Xu is interested in finding natural lead compounds from medicinal plants; and in developing new drug based on Chinese medicines against different disease targets such as cancer, HIV, HSV, bird flu, HBV and cancer chemoprevention
